An interesting article for you,

Moneyweb - News - Eskom lashes out at Nersa: "Homepage

Eskom Holdings Limited rejects, in the strongest possible terms, the suggestion that the Eskom management has been pre-occupied with the profitability of the utility at the expense of providing adequate supply of electricity to the country. This is a misguided statement and can never be substantiated in fact.

Eskom has consistently spent in excess of what the National Energy Regulator of South Africa's (NERSA) has allowed for primary energy cost in its Multi-Year Price Determination. In this current phase of the three year price determination (commencing 1 April 2006 ending 31 March 2009), Eskom will spend R13 billion over and above what the Regulator has allowed in its determination. For the past two financial years, Eskom spent R6 billion more than what the Regulator allowed. For the current financial year, Eskom is projecting to spend another R6 billion in excess of what the Regulator has allowed for primary energy cost.

The Board further disagrees with the NERSA conclusion that 'there appears to be a conflict between Eskom's business objectives and its reason for existence: to supply electricity'."

Eskom - Teambuilding

Now more than ever Eskom teams will need to be built and a focussed safe team environment will need to be created.

Any company or organisation that is under pressure to deliver will be stressed. This is when relationships breakdown. This is where the work pressure becomes interpersonal stress and conflict.

2/4/2003 - Feedback From Eskom, Ellisras TSC (15 months after the Celebrating Humanity program.)

To: Brian Moore,
Mthimkhulu International, Durban SA.
Afrikaans version (English version below.)

English Version

a) I had a group of 30 people from diverse cultures. They could not get on with each other, there was continuous friction between the different race groups, and between people from the same race and cultural group.

The people were negative and were not satisfied with anything.

Complaints were the order of the day, this also placed our Depot in a bad light with management. We decided on the Celebrating Humanity training, the people were very negative about the programme initially. As the course progressed the people=s attitudes changed from negative to positive.

b) 30% of the personnel felt totally threatened by the course, mainly those who were most negative, and the rest of the group was neutral about the course.

c) During the course the whole group of people changed systematically and began to be completely positive towards each other, the company and the supervisor.

d) Communication, respect and ownership improved from all sides by 100%. The respect between different race groups has been restored and some of the people who were negative have changed so much that they have been promoted to higher positions with greater responsibility.

e) The way in which the interactive exercises were facilitated was very interesting. The foundation of the entire course was so successful that the group is now going ahead with a leadership course from March to November 2003.

Best wishes
